It cultivates the knowledge base, skills, attitudes and values that seek to transform people’s behaviors that, in the first place, have either created or exacerbated violent conflicts. “Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.” ~ Dr.

Montessori. Montessori’s peace “curriculum” drew me in immediately. The approach makes sense. There are three levels of experiencing peace: world peace, community peace, and inner peace.

She goes on to state that peace education "might be education for authentic security,” (Reardon, 40) where a need for security motivates humans to form communities and nations.

What can policy makers learn from this book. This book shows that transformative education for conflict resolution and peace, for local, national and global citizenship, for human rights and humanitarian values CAN be implemented even under difficult conditions if there is a policy commitment to do so.

Holistic education is a relatively new movement in education that seeks to engage all aspects of the learner, including mind, body, and spirit. The field of peace education has significantly developed over the past decades from the training course in nonviolence to constructive learning about human rights, cooperative values, active communication, conflict resolution, disarmament and peace-building.(Poleo, Antonio & Harris, Ian).

This book is a collection of my exchanges on the quest for peace and the way for the realization of social justice with Dr. Rees, whom I deeply respect. It is a book driven by our mutual conviction in the immense power of one book to bring about change.
